IOM PROJECT

 We are building the derivatives from our own molds the PATRIOT IOM similar to the boat that won the USA 2005 National Championship as a club project . . . This is a similar boat design that the legendary Craig Mackey of Seattle, WA, sailed to victory against 45 excellent competitors with all manner of much touted boats. But the Patriot, built by our friend Steve Landeau, won. The Patriot design, is based on Trevor Bamforth's Stealth and licensed by him.Steve came in fourth sailing an ISIS (he sold his available Patriots as soon as he built them). Steve graciously offered to lend us the plug to build our own molds and hulls, as well as spending time with us to discuss the molding techniques. We have all been dazzled by the terrific Santa Barbara boats Ron builds. We hope to have other club members volunteer with different aspects of production of our boats (rigging, sails, winch and radio installations, decal and painting, assembling, etc).The IOM is the world's largest class of boats (around 15,000) and is sailed worldwide. It is also the fastest growing class in the USA. The problem has been obtaining one. And they are expensive. Most of the competitive designed boats sell for $2,500. It often takes several months to obtain a new one, since most builders are backordered. Used boats typically sell for over $1,000. We now have the rare chance to build and own the USA Championship design boat ourselves for a much lower cost. As a Stealth, this design took many first places in major races worldwide. Right now we have IOM's in the club that include a Patriot, Patriot MKII's, a Disco, a TS2, a Southern Cross 4 and a few we are not certain of.
