Racing Rules Discussion:

Recently Joe Tidwell suggested that "all of us getting together and having a 'rules sail' would be great . . . if we can get the rest to join it would help a great deal." Joe's suggestion followed similar recommendations by Bob Smith and Ron Thornhill.

Because of the rising level of interest among our members to learn and abide by the rules, which will make us all more effectively competitive while building greater harmony during the racing and increase our enjoyment of our hobby/sport, Shoe set up a discussion page you can access below.

Most important, you can subscribe to get email for newly posted messages, so you won't have to monitor this web page for new messages. Just click the "Subscribe" button after accessing the discussion page and follow the instructions.

Discuss Racing Rules

Meeting Minutes LBMYC 11/7/05

Those present: RonThornhill, Robert Schumacher, Barry Hamilton, Ernest Thorpe, Dick Connors, Frank Leppla, Joe Sullivan, Chuck Heil, Bob Smith ( author)

Meeting had no fixed Agenda being the first non Lakeside meeting in more than two years.

1) Bob Smith proposed that we restrict the skipper operating area. This would ensure that all skippers have the same prospective on the race and that there is possibility to talk thru “mark rounding'” and protests. It was agreed that the course would be shortened (bring weather mark to the north on the lake) and this would be tried at next session. Restricted area to be determined at lakeside.

2) It was further suggested from the discussion that there should be separate start and finish lines so that the weather legs could be lengthened. Barry said that he may have additional marks, in any case Joe will take the lead in organizing a work party in December.

3) Racing Rules: There followed extensive discussion on the rules. It was generally agreed that we are all deficient in that area. Hard clamp down was not considered a remedy for the club. Ron, suggested that at the beginning of each race day a person would be selected to observe for infractions during the morning racing. These would be discussed in open forum at lunch break.

4) Two sailing simulators were suggested. VSK3 which as a free demo on line some version of which can be purchased from Amazon.com @ $9.97 , and Posey Yacht Design @ $45.00 also has a free demo for downloading and can be used on PC's and Mac's. Both would assist individuals in understanding rules and tactics.

5) Topic of discussion changed to: dwindling participation. We will have a fun race day 10th December 2005

6) Advertising brochures for Hobby Shops. Frank volunteered to put a sheet together. Everyone can distribute in their local.

7) Web Site. This was a major discussion. Shoe created the Odom.com site that is not being used. Name could be changed and Shoe will work with Ernie over the next few days and evaluate how to proceed. New site URL will be sent to AMYA for them to attach. Ernie volunteered to up date the site. Late Flash, Bob informs me that he is putting together a new site lets use it guy's.

8) Handicap racing, etc to encourage new participants, was discussed and disregarded, there being no real satisfactory way to proceed.

9) Trophies: Joe to continue as normal 3-4 large plaques to be purchased for those running out of room.

10) Hanson Dam: they have been awarded the 2007 US1 M nationals. We discussed using the facility. For now the following was proposed ; we will race 1st and 3rd Saturdays ODOMS, Solings, US1 M, and IOM at Hanson Dam. LBMYC will continue to race the present classes at Lake Balboa

11) IOM: Steve Landeau as offered to let us use his plug /mounds to build Patriots. Several of us are interested. Trip will be arranged to visit Steve to review build process. How many club are interested in owning a winning IOM? Please contact Bob Smith.

12) Officers: I believe that Scot has expressed a desire to step down. Any volunteers for Commodore. There were none at this meeting. Bob Smith will continue as treasurer.

13) On behalf of those that attended I would like to extend a warm thank you to Barry and his family for hosting the event and putting up with our rowdy discussions. For those that missed it was a good event and for those that I missed on the original e mail’s my sincere apologies.
