Well im not an alumni yet i still have one year left at the school before graduation. But thats not my point...my point is that you the alumnis had a real enriched education and art. The school was something in the past but its nothing now... Students like me wont gain much because our academic education went down the drain...but worst of all our art classes are shrinking..did u know the school took out music? did u know they wanted to take out gym...?did u know that 55 was the passing grade...? and did u know that our school was the only school in the nation to have a medical illustration class in a high school? also i dont know if u know that the mass majority of our school is spanish and the only "foreign language" offered in our school is Spanish... What the past was once is no more... This is the future and the new millenium in the High School of Art and Design...

I was a student at Art and Design from 1960 to 1963. My major was Architecture. My profession was as a Store Planner. I have designed and built many store around the country. I am now simi retired from my job as a Store Planner for Belk Stores here in Charlotte, NC. I now do freelance work in fine art, architecture, sculpturing and an a prison Chaplain. Hi, I am looking forward to the 50th class reunion for the class of SIA '55. I just found this site and was really excited to get all news about classmates and also general information about what artists are doing now from their education from the School of Art and Design. I have been a resident of Billings, Montana for 25 years and enjoy painting in watercolor, as well as being a docent for the Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings. What a thrill to find this website. The memmories of my high school days will always be very special to me. NOT REALLY INTO THE WEB, BUT I FOUND THIS SITE TODAY AND IVE BEEN ENGROSSED THE ENTIRE AFTERNOON. GRADUATED IN 1959 AND I HAVE NOTHING BUT FOUND MEMORIES OF SIA. I LOOK AT TODAYS KIDS WITH THE BRITANNY SPEARS LOOK AND THINK BACK AND OFTEN COMMENT ON HOW GROWN UP AND PROFESSIONAL WE WERE AT SIA. NOT TO SAY WE WERE TEENAGERS LIKE ANYONE ELSE BUT SIA TAUGHT US TO GROW UP. FOR THAT I WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL. MY LIFE HAS BEEN MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN I WOULD EVER IMAGINED AND I KNOW PART OF IT HAS TO DO WITH THE GOOD GUIDENCE I RECIEVED IN MY FORMATIVE YEARS. 54, June. 'Yo guys, 'wattup? Here's your chance to show how good you are, get your creative juices going & help me while you're @ it. I'm planning on running for something where I live, So Beach, & show how well we were trained. My quest is going to be for the Mayorship or a Commission seat. What I need is some kind of slogan, which I'm sure you can come up w/& some ideas on how to win, like Vince Lombardi said, that's what it's all about. Here's what I've come up w/, but I'm suren you can do better: "Fight City Hall", "If Elected, I Will Donate My Salary to the Children of Mia Bea", "Gov't is Serious Business",etc. Strictly on the up & up no funny stuff, here. I'm handling it the way I would like to be spoken to. I have met w/handlers, but I want new stuff, no back-room dealing. I'm fixing to use T-shirts, local small newspaper ads, & letters to the editors, & some small token of appreciation, like a key holder, for tne most part. We'll make this a contest like they do in the big time, w/a prize & all, $50 to the winner or the same amount in a contrbution to the Alumni Fund of SIA. Please let me know what you think & lots of luck to all & may the best idea win.
