Sundays in September: A Class Jazz Act
Ric Nicastro, A&D Class of 1963, hosts a weekend radio show at a public broadcasting station in San Diego, California. Earlier in his life he was a radio DJ in places like Macon, Georgia, Toledo, Ohio and Albany, New York. He's found an opportunity to do it again -- 30 years later -- as a part-time gig. Ric does his weekly jazz show on KSDS 88.3 and it's streamed live on the Internet at www.jazz88online.org. You can catch Ric "on the air" on Sundays, from noon to 3pm, PT, (3pm to 6pm, ET).

September 5th - 26th: Poetry Readings Dedicated to 9/11
This month is the 7th anniversary of 9/11, and Leona Seufert, class of 1969 will be reading her emotional poems about Ground Zero, our continuing sorrow, and the memories we should never forget. She is dedicating her readings to all those who lost a loved one that day.
Tuesday September 5th at 8pm - Van Gogh's Ear, 1017 Stuyvesant Ave, Union NJ. Van Gogh's Ear is a great place to eat. A minimum food charge applies.
Wednesday September 10th, at 8pm - Barron Arts Center, 582 Rahway Ave, Woodbridge, NJ. An art center, donations requested, refreshments available.
Thursday September 11th, at 6pm - Michael J Mauri park, Roselle Park, NJ. Leona will be doing a reading as part of Roselle Park's 9/11 Memorial ceremony.
Tuesday September 16th, at 8pm - The Carriage House Poetry Series, Kuran Arts Center, Watson Road, (off Martine Ave), Fanwood, NJ. Free admission.
Friday September 26th at 6pm - Pink Pony West, Cornelia St. Café, 29 Cornelia St between Bleecker & 6th Aveue Café, bar.$7 admission gets you a free drink.

September 5th - October 1st: "Old Hat Club" Alumni Art Show at Art & Design
Former members of the school's "Old Hat Club" -- taught by faculty members Irwin Greenberg and Max Ginsburg -- will have their work on display in the Kenny Gallery of the High School of Art and Design, from Friday, September 1st through Wednesday, October 1st. The show -- which includes the work of 28 alumni and 3 faculty members
-- was curated by A&D Art teacher James Harrington, Class of 1984, and a former member of the Old Hat Club.
____An opening reception will take place on Friday, September 5th, from 4-6pm. The High School of Art and Design is located at 1075 Second Avenue, NYC. Gallery hours are from 9am-4pm, Monday through Friday. Contact James Harrington for further information.

"After the Dust Has Settled" a solo exhibit of digital prints by Leona M. Seufert, Class of 1969, honoring 9/11 & Ground Zero. This exhibit incorporates Leona's poetry, photography and digital artwork and is an emotional commentary on 9/11 and the evolution of Ground Zero. Tired of pumping the $40-$60 of gasoline into your Escalade? Need an answer to your kids' worried looks on Earth Day? Want to live longer and feel better? Imagine pedaling 60 mph! And a future without SUV's!
____Creative minds are tinkering and inventing eco-friendly 100% human-powered vehicles in local basements. Learn how and why they do it, and view their remarkable vehicles at this fascinating exhibit opening at the Staten Island Museum on April 19th. Opening reception is Friday, April 18th, from 6-8pm. $10 (free to members of the Museum, SIBA and NY Cycling Club).
____Chris Spollen, (A&D 1971) is a free-lance artist who offers the visual flair, brainstorming abilities and exuberance. His brother, Tom Spollen, is a lawyer by trade, but also the welding/mechanical whiz/voice of reason. Together they have created an unusual fleet of "green" one-of-a-kind vehicles using found materials and many, many, cast-off bikes.
